Batu dam is a flood control and water supply dam constructed under the Kuala Lumpur Flood Mitigation Project. Its construction was completed in 1987. The dam is located immediately downstream of the confluence of Sungai Batu and Sungai Tua which is about 16km upstream of the city centre of Kuala Lumpur. Currently, Puncak Niaga is abstracting water direct from the dam for domestic and industrial water supply to some parts of Kuala Lumpur. The main project components are an earthfill main embankment, a spillway and outlet works. The dam is a zoned earthfill embankment. The spillway is a side-channel inlet structure with a long crest. The outlet works is located at the base of the left abutment to the right of spillway structure and consist of an intake structure with multilevel intake gate and two flood control opening, an upstream conduit, a gate chamber, a downstream conduit, a control structure and a stilling basin. The outlet works deliver water to the municipal and industrial pipeline at the control structure. |
