New Repas Dam

Active ImageThis dam was built in 1963 at about 610m downstream of the Old Repas dam for the same purpose (ie silt retention). It has a catchment area of approximately 28sq.km. The dam comprises an earthfill embankment and a spillway. The embankment is 192m long and 13.4m high. The spillway consists of a rectangular bell-mouth shaft inlet, conduits and a stilling basin with design capacity of 85 cube. The dam still has most of its retention capacity. This is mainly because the mining activity upstream of the dam has completely stopped and thereafter the concentration of silt in the water is comparatively much smaller
