Bukit Kwong Dam



Active ImageBukit Kwong Dam is located in the state of Kelantan Darul Naim near the Malaysian-Thai border at latitude 500 57.3' N and longitude 1010 57.9' E. The dam is about 8km south-west of Rantau Panjang town and is accessible from the town via a metal road. It has a catchment area of about 11sq.km is drained by Sg. Tandak Liang which flows into Sg. Golok, the main river in the Sg.Golok Basin. 

The dam compises a homogeneous earthfill embankment, a vertical drop semi-circular broad crested ungated spillway and an intake structure with a vertical sliding screw down gate. The construction of the dam commenced on September 1976 and completed in July 1979.

The dam has a reservoir capacity of about 14.3Mcm at the normal pool level of RL16.76m and an active storage of 10.49Mcm. Based on the size and hazard pontential classification of dams by the US Army Corps of Engineers, the dam falls under the category of intermediate size with high hazard potential.
