Introduction RWH
The direct collection of rainwater from roof and other purpose built catchment, the collection of sheet runoff from man-made ground or natural surface catchments and rock catchments for domestic, industry, agriculture and environment use. The system can be categorized as small, medium and large scale.
Why use RWH?
- Utilising an otherwise wasted resource would contribute towards
- sustainable water resources management especially in cities.
- Domestic/Industrial benefits
- Supplement water for industrial, commercial, agricultural, institutional and domestic use.
- Independent water supply for non potable use.
- Rainwater collection will reduce water bills.
- Additional water for fire protection/emergency use
- Environmental benefits
- Minimizing discharges into drainage systems.
- Reduce soil erosion.
- Improvement of river management.
Advantanges Using RWH
1. For Environmental:
- Can be attributed due escalating environmental and economic cost of providing water by centralized water system or by well drilling.
- To reduce the ultilization of portable water with using the collection rainwater for non-portable application such as toilet flushing and garden watering
- Reduce the land erosion and flooding caused by runoff from impervious cover such pavement and roof.
2. For Quality Control
- Capable of providing a clean, safe and reliable water source if the collection system are properly built and maintained and water is treated appropriately for intended uses.
3. For Quantity Control
- Provide the small storage constructed on individual residential, commercial and industrial lot to serve a minor storm event.
